The Noordduinen are an elongated strip of nature reserve, covering 73 hectares, surrounded by residential areas, tourist infrastructure and a military base. The name refers to its location in relation to the village centre of Koksijde, roughly northwards. On the edge of this dune area you will find the Abbey Museum of the Dunes and the beautiful South Abbey Mill. The picturesque museum Vanneuvillehuis, where artist Walter Vilain had his studio, is further hidden in the dunes.
Donkeys keep the vegetation short in the grazing zones, preventing the grasslands from being overgrown again by shrubs and trees. The result is diversified: dune grasslands, dune valleys, dune thickets, bushes and old fishermen's cottages. An ideal nature and culture walk!
During the spring, you can hear the unrivalled Nightingale song or enjoy the beautiful blossom and scent of burnet rose.
